From results to next steps

You have your scores.
Now make a plan.

A score is useful when you know what to do with it. Work through the report, credit policy, and score-send steps separately so nothing gets lost between systems.

Free and paid AP score sends

College Board offers one free recipient in each year you take AP exams. For 2027, choose and save that recipient by June 20 at 11:59 p.m. ET. That deadline comes before the published July score-release month, so check your college’s requirements early.

Reports normally include your AP score history, not just the newest exam, unless you have used College Board’s withholding or cancellation options. Read the official rules before choosing either of those services.

Check credit course by course

Start with College Board’s AP credit policy search, then confirm the current rule on the college’s own website. Record the exact subject, minimum score, credit amount, and course equivalency. Check whether the policy changes by school, major, or entering class.

Credit and placement are related but different. A result may let you start in a more advanced class, award course credit, or both. Ask an adviser how the policy applies to your intended degree before skipping a prerequisite.

Keep delivery and processing separate

An official report becoming available to a college is not the same as credit appearing on your student record. Check the college portal and contact the registrar if necessary. Keep your order confirmation and the college’s deadline together.

If the result was not what you hoped for

First check what the score means for the next course you plan to take. Write down specific topics you want to review, then choose one manageable action: discuss placement with an adviser, review a difficult unit, or adjust next term’s study routine.
